Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Pune branch and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital & Research Center, Pune are happy to announce the first of its kind Applied Medical Genetics conference, exclusively for Pediatricians, the PediGen 2012. Here are answers to some of your questions:

We realize that the graduate and post-graduate medical curricula may not have provided adequate knowledge, exposure and experience in diagnosing and managing genetic disorders presenting in pediatric age group. There is little cross-talk amongst clinicians, scientists and diagnostic laboratories in our educational and medical systems. These difficulties often stand as hurdles in imparting the benefits of Medical Genetics to the deserving patients. Information that a condition is genetic in origin, its particular inheritance pattern and recurrence risk does not reach the families and they remain unaware of facilities for testing, treatment and do not get an option of prenatal diagnosis for taking informed decisions. However, the pace of advances in Medical Genetics, both diagnostic and therapeutic is very rapid and it might not be possible to keep updated even if you wish too.

What is PediGen 2012?

PediGen 2012 is an opportunity for those of you who wish to know how Medical Genetics can help your patients---understanding concepts in Genetics obviously is the first step!
PediGen 2012 will provide interactive case-based learning to cover most of the common genetic disorders that you see in your practice. It will give you an opportunity for one to one dialogue with faculty to get to the basics. Additionally, you may choose from one of the four concurrent small group special breakfast sessions to learn more about a particular topic of your interest, say metabolic disorders or genetic counseling.
