NEUROPHYSIOTHERAPY

Overview :

Department provides evidence-based physiotherapy services. This involves management of post operative cases, cases involving post stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson’s Disease, other neurological disorders.

Spectrum and Services :

Rehabilitation starts from patient’s admission in the critical care unit till the patient discharge followed by out patient care on routine basis to improve independence and quality of life.

1. Post stroke rehabilitation :

This involves inter disciplinary treatment with use of Neuromuscular electrical stimulator, body weight support, different modalities helping to gain the patient’s independence and Quality of Life.

2. Rehabilitation of Parkinson’s Disease :

Involves detailed evaluation of patient for disease severity, related complaints and its management with set of tailor-made exercises followed by home exercise program.

3. Rehabilitation in other neurological disorders :

• Spinal Cord Injury, Guillian Barre Syndrome, Multiple sclerosis: Specialized care to mobilize patients in critical care unit for prevention of complications of bed rest, further sitting or standing using equipment like body weight support, splints and supports
  Teaching the patients independent transfers, training to walk with assistive devices.
• Myasthenia Gravis, Motor neuron disease: Individualized exercises to improve strength, physical activity status, prevent fatigue, Improve sleep.
  

Facilities :

• Mind Motion Go: Semi immersive environment virtual reality training equipment for Balance, Hand Rehabilitation, Gait Training
• Body Weight support: With harness, offloads the percentage of body weight which helps to stand and walk safely with the robotic assistance.
• Multi stimulators: Helping for muscle re-education, improving strength
• Functional electrical stimulator (Walk- aid) Helps in pattern correction to walk with feedback from the equipment.

Events :

Rehabilitation in Parkinsons Disease also has interdisciplinary program named ‘Befriending Parkinsons’ designed specially to cater the needs of these patients and their caregivers. This program consists of speech therapy, Yoga, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Brain Gym and counseling sessions. Sessions take place majorly in a group with individualized problem solving beneficial for patients.
